Arcing Contacts for Transmission and Distribution of Electrical Energy
 |
Arcing contacts are subjected to extreme mechnical and thermal stresses during operation. For fractions of a second temperatures rise to several thousand degrees Celsius as a result of the arcing. |
Tungsten-copper-materials from PLANSEE are used owing to their unique physical properties. Evaporating copper also cools the skeleton of the tungsten, which in any case features a high melting point of 3410°C.
Advantages:
- Very high burn-off resistance
- Low tendency to crack
- Excellent thermal and electrical conductivity
- All necessary joining and machining processes inhouse
- Wide inhouse know-how according design and material properties
Forms of delivery:
Finished components:
- Arcing contacts in finished shape made of WCu, WAg-ELMET materials, which are joined to various support materials such as Cu, steel, etc.
Semi-finished products:
- Blanks consisting of infiltrated or back-cast ELMET materials
- Blanks consisting of an ELMET contact head, welded or brazed to various support materials such as Cu, steel, etc.
- Job welding and brazing: PLANSEE also produces welded or brazed connections for contacts
